The market finally had a quiet session. The major averages opened a bit higher and bounced around unchanged most of the day. All the major averages finished in the lower half of their intraday trading ranges. The COMPQ was lower by .13% while the NDX was dead flat. The SPX gained .13%. There was more strength in small and mid-cap stocks. Volume was mixed, higher on the New York and lower on the NASD. Leading stocks were mixed to higher. The leaders index gained .66% on the day. The index closed in the lower half of its trading range on lower and well below average volume. The market had a quiet session overall today with the major averages never straying far from unchanged. They closed little changed all around. The small and mid-cap stocks did show some strength and closed high in their trading ranges. There was little market moving news today, but I wouldn’t count on that continuing. Today’s action didn’t change much. The market is still struggling to get any kind of positive action going. It’s a market you want to avoid. Jerry
